We strongly advise taking Master Forward Facing Sonar™ first to learn the core concepts, Tom's exact settings, and the foundation that all other courses are built upon. It is highly recommended, but not required.

What Sets Tom Huynh University Apart

At THU, we go beyond tips and tactics. We teach anglers to think, operate, and strategize to 'never waste a cast'

  • Sonar-Specific Training: Master the art of forward-facing sonar (FFS) with principle-driven, brand-agnostic instruction. Tom breaks down signal behavior, target interpretation, boat control, and in-game strategy so you can trust what you’re seeing, and act with confidence.

  • Body-of-Water Specific Mastery: Every course is built from the water up. A library of body-of-water specific course are being launched, starting with Lake of the Woods, where you’ll gain intimate understanding of structure, seasonal fish migrations patters, and the option for exclusive waypoint bundles that unlock those sweet spots fast.

“Walleyes and sonar go together like bread and butter. In the past there have been a few anglers that have made their fame and recognition by rising to the top of the electronic usage game. Guys like Korey Sprengel, Doc Sampson, And Tommy Kemos are great examples. I've seen all of them since the start of professional walleye fishing, and perhaps the most impressive man that I've ever witnessed is Tom Huynh! In the last four years he has proven to be the foremost expert in the use of Forward Facing Sonar. He is the current World Champion of walleye fishing and has literally dominated with his use of FFS. I dare say that he has taught and helped many of the top pros today, including myself. You see, Tom teaches. He loves to share his well earned expertise and we are all lucky to have a person like him to guide our way as we learn about these wonderful fish. You need to experience Tom's course. Sit back, relax and enjoy a learning experience that will change the way you fish! ”

“Since joining the THU Community™, and completing the Master Forward Facing Sonar™ Course, our confidence and efficiency on the water have improved dramatically. The course has given us a far better understanding of fish behavior, sonar interpretation, and how to maximize the effectiveness of forward-facing sonar in tournament situations. This season fishing the Southern Alberta Walleye Trail (SAWT), we've earned a 3rd-place finish, a 5th-place finish, and an 8th-place finish so far. Even more telling, we improved from a 25th-place finish at 40 Mile last year to a Top 10 finish this year. Tom and the THU™ team have built a program that delivers real-world, tournament-proven knowledge. Whether you're looking to become more consistent, shorten the learning curve, or compete at a higher level, joining the THU Community™ is one of the best investments any angler can make weather you’re fun fishing with your family or a tournament angler! ”

“As a couple who loves to walleye fish, we used to primarily drag bottom bouncers without much success in finding the big fish. Watching tournaments, and tournament results, we found FFS to be the way most big fish were being caught. We purchased our set up and really didn’t start utilizing it because we didn’t know how to use it effectively. Over the winter, we decided to purchase the THU Community™ with the commitment that we were going to learn it and use it solely. Throughout the winter, we completed the THU™ course and attended the LIVE meetings which led us to spring time where we began solely using the FFS. As we began, we had questions and struggles that we could quickly look up on the THU™ site and find answers to by looking at the courses again and asking questions in the THU Community™. The more we listened to the courses, the more we learned. Regardless of one’s level, anyone can go back and pick up new ideas every time. This course has changed our fishing immensely in that now we catch multiple tournament-grade fish daily, as opposed to very few per season before. We have started tournament fishing this year, and still have much to learn, but continue to utilize the FFS course before and after tournaments and pre-fishing. We gain a ton of information from the lake-specific courses, even though we don’t fish those specific lakes – for example the lessons on seasonal migration patterns and understanding the forage of a lake can be applied to any lake. We are very excited to be going to Lake of the Woods this summer and now feel like we have the knowledge to be successful in the short time we will be there due to the Lake of the Woods course. In addition, the round table discussions and the THU Community™ provide us with another opportunity to listen to Tom and learn from him face-to-face, as well as from other angler’s experiences. If you are spending the money on the equipment, the price of the class is a bargain to learn how to use it, use it well, and continue to have support and updated resources that you won’t find anywhere else. We are very thankful to have found THU and look forward to the Thursday Live sessions and discussions! Thanks for all the help Tom! ”
